: : : Hello!
: : : I just yesterday updated my amp quipment -- I got a 400W Ampeg cab, brand new, along a Crate head (BXH-220), which was used. I have everything plugged in properly -- I checked both my speaker, and instrument cables, and everything seems to be in fine condition. But here's the problem: While playing, the amp will start crackling for a few moments, the output will go really quiet, and then it'll suddenly start working fine again. I'm not sure if the problem is within the new cab, or if it's in the head.
: : : Could the head be causing the crackling? Or do I have something set up improperly? Or perhaps could the problem be the rather poor electricity in my house? I really doubt it's the latter, although, because my prior amp -- Which was a 115W Ampeg -- Never had any problems.
: : : Thanks~!
: : I'd bet it's the input jack from the Head. See if there's an effects loop, or second input and try plugging in that way. If it works OK, it's probably the input jack - a very small repair.
: : Good Luck,

: Hey, I think you're right! I tried the bass through the effects loop, and the problem went right away. As soon as I plugged into the input again, the problem came right back. Thanks!
: Any advise on how I should go about getting this fixed?
If you're REALLY good with electrical stuff, and know how to solder, you can probably do it yourself.
If you can afford it, it's much better to take it to an amp repair shop - try the Crate Website to find one. If you tell them what the problem is, you can probably get an estimate on the phone.
Be sure and let us know how it turns out.
