: I recently started playing fretless, but I prefer the bright clanky sound of Rotosound roundwounds instead of flats. will rounds destroy my fingerboard? the bass is a Carvin and it has an ebony fingerboard. isn't ebony a strong wood?

: thanks,

Don't do it, man!!! Seriously, it will mark up the board quickly. I don't know how much effect the marks have on tone, but a freind of mine wrecked the ebony board on his Fender that way in about a year. I'm using lighter gage Thomastic Infeld flatwounds for a brighter sound on my fretless Jazz. Might want to experiment with different brands of string before going the roundwound route.
