: I recently started playing fretless, but I prefer the bright clanky sound of Rotosound roundwounds instead of flats. will rounds destroy my fingerboard? the bass is a Carvin and it has an ebony fingerboard. isn't ebony a strong wood?

: thanks,

Eddie:
I have done my fretless with Roundwounds and halfrounds and flatwounds... the Roundwounds will mark up your neck, causing you to take it in once a year for the fretboard to be redressed. Frankly, I got the best sound from Elixers, a coated string that gave me lots of that wonderful fretless mwahhh but didn't chew up the fretboard, and lasted just about forever - one set goes for about 6 to 9 months for me.
