: I recently started playing fretless, but I prefer the bright clanky sound of Rotosound roundwounds instead of flats. will rounds destroy my fingerboard? the bass is a Carvin and it has an ebony fingerboard. isn't ebony a strong wood?

: thanks,

Hey, Eddie!

I've been using super rounds on my fretlesses for about 15 years. I went the Jaco route and had the necks coated with epoxy or cyanoencryalate (crazy glue). I have a light touch, so I got a few years maintenance-free, even under very heavy usage. If you play really hard, you'll probably chew up your neck. I'd suggest, though, that you try a super round string - rotos are VERY rough strings.

Good Luck,

Rob
