I primarilly use Keith Roscoe's basses, but if I weren't so set on Roscoe's custom stuff, the first bass I'd go for, especially in terms of a 6-string, would be the Ibanez BTB. If you can find one with the Bartolini electronics, you definitely won't be disappointed, but Ibanez' stock pickups are pretty darn good too. I'm not too impressed with Warwick's stuff, unless it's the model with the Jazz/MusicMan pickup configuration. That bass has some nice tones.

Unless it's a used Yamaha John Myung, I don't know why Musician's Friend would be discounting the price that much. Most of Yamaha's stuff is excellent, especially the Patitucci, East, and Myung Signature models. In fact, Grandma's Music here in Albuquerque has a used Patitucci 6-string, gorgeous instrument, hardly used, for about $1,200. Call them at (505) 292-0341 and ask for Cameron in the guitar department. Better hurry though. There are a lot of people interested in it, including me!

Good luck,
