: I hope this question hasn't been asked before, but I've been playing guitar for a while, and now I wanna play bass. I wanna buy one, a good one, so can someone give me their opinion on the best brands and models? Tell me like, experiences and the good and bad and all that crap. (Also, do they make any smaller basses, because I have small girlish hands that can't reach across the frets...)

Good advice by paige there. I'd recommend going to: www.musiciansfriend.com just to look around and get a feel of what's out there. Then, if you see something you like, but are unsure if it's a good buy, just come back here and one of us will tell you whether it's worth it or not. If you can go up to about $400, I'd recommend either a MIM Fender (Made in Mexico) or one of the entry level Yamahas. I have a 5 string Yamaha that cost $400. It plays and sounds like basses twice the price.
Take your time, it's a big site.

Good luck.
