I'm fairly picky about my basses. As far as four stringers go, I like the Music Man basses. They've got great punch, a lot of high-end, (maybe too much if you're not careful,)and they are well balanced. I've also played some Pedulas that I really liked, but I haven't been pleased with everything I've seen. Not sure why, just the way they felt and played. Great tone, though, and a solid bass all around. For 5-stringers and beyond, (tought I've never owned a six or seven,) I'm a big fan of Tobias, though I've run into a lot of electronic problems with mine. I believe it's a result of the change in ownership as I've talked to two other bassists with post-Gibson axes that had similar problems, but have heard nothing negative regarding older models. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to check out any MTD's. I've also heard some great low-end from Alembics, but they generally feel too bulky for me. Finally, Fodera makes the best bass I've ever touched. Problem is they're made to order and are more comfortable to buy on a CEO's salary. However, nothing I've played compares to Vinnie Fodera's basses. Hope I didn't talk too much.
