: Recently I've been getting back to playing after several years. I originally started in 1995, had to quit in 97 due to my schedule and living situation in an apt. I have a Washburn Lyon, and SWR Basic Black amp. I am coming to the realization that I am not entirely fond of my bass, primarily due to what I like to call "Lisa Simpson Syndrome" - little hands/short fingers. It was a frustration for me when I first started playing and continues to be now, so I'm thinking that I should probably look at a shorter scale bass. Any suggestions?

Trase,
One of my favorites (of the 6 I own) is the Dan Armstrong Clear Body bass by Ampeg. It's a 30" scale neck and plays beautifly. I was lucky enough to find it in a pawn shop back in '81 for $350. I put new pots, tuners and bridge on it, had the body buffed out, put aa active EMG pickup in and changed the neck to fretless. The new reissues are about $1500 retail, come with two interchangable pickups. I also have a Univox violin bass that I'm rebuilding. It too has a 30" neck. I found it on Ebay. I'm sure there are others but you may have to do some detective work. Good luck, it will be worth it. Dave
