For the record, Hepatitis C is NOT caused by alcoholism. Although, cirrhosis of the liver is a condition that can occur both long term alcohol abusers as well as hepatitis C patients.
In addition, a liver transplant and subsequent rehabilitation and anti-rejection drugs can easily cost in the multi-million dollar range.
Without any health insurance, you are talking about financial ruin. Although in some cases, the hospital can 'forgive' all or a portion of the charges when it is obvious that the individual is unable to pay.
