: p.s.s i'm looking 4 a four string bass.
I would recomend the fender, if your planing on spending around $400, I would recomend you go a step higher then the Squier and get the standard Fender P bass($349.99 at www.musiciansfriend.com) You get what you pay for and it will hold it's value if you ever want to upgrade to a deluxe. I wonder what style of music you are playing, because I've found that if your playing heavier music like along the lines of metalcore the p-bass is what you want, but if you want a deeper sound Rock -N- Roll, Blues then you should go with the J-bass. I play a compo. of styles, but it's mostly heavy, I still went with the J-bass because I felt it offered a more versitile sound. I recomend you at least plug both in and give them a fair play.
