Great sound comes from the hands and the heart.
The equipment and its settings are not as important as you might think.
: You might not think this is very amusing, but this happened to me a few months ago and I never thought it was that funny either until I told a friend and he nearly wet his pants.
: I was on holiday in Malta and in the hotel every evening was a different band. Most of them were crappy hotel wine bar bands (no offence to people who play wine bars) and after a lot of contemptably repetative drum beats and bass lines I was damn near sick (you know it's crap when someone as talentless as me has the nerve to criticise it).
: But, one night there was this cool bassist playing. Plus he was using the same bass as I use (cort/tanglewood curbow 5-string). It sounded really good, as did his basslines. I waited by the stage for the band to finish so I could ask him about the settings on the bass (there's two controls in the back of the bass for bass and mid so you don't have to alter the height of the pickups). I figured if I asked him what settings he used, then I could get my bass to sound like that too. So I waited..............and waited.............and my legs got quite tired..............and even more tired..............and I waited even longer.
: Eventually the band finished so I went over to the guy to ask him about the settings on his bass. I said Hi and asked. "Wha"? he said. I made the question clearer (by now about 75-100 people are looking at me wondering who this stupid kid is). I pointed to the controls on the back of the bass and asked again. "Ah" he said "Ah...factory settings...I don't know".
: I kicked myself and went to the bar to buy a drink, but they don't serve vodka to 16 year olds. So I sipped on a sunkist and felt like a complete arsehole. I'm sure everyone else there that evening agreed with me !
: Sorry If you don't think thats funny, but according to a friend it is.
: Don't let this happen to you.
