: Does anyone have any positive or negative comments on a 12-string bass? I saw a used one the other day at the local shop, but didn't really look at it or play it. I've only played 4-string Fenders, so what am I in for?

John Paul Jones and John Entwistle both play(ed) them a lot. They are very powerful what with three notes played at once. I played an 8-string for awhile and it sounded great. The only problem with a 12'er is that you've got to keep it tuned all the time and you spend three times as much for a set of strings. You can have one custome built (for major bucks) or check out the Dean Rapsody for a lot less.
