: Hey all. My band just finished up in the studio, and we're having some trouble with mixing bass. We can't quite balance out the powerfull upfront sound we want without overwhelming the speakers. When we get the volume we like, it distorts the overall sound. Are bass player is great, and we don't want to loose him in the mix. Any suggestions? Is there something we can use to compress the frequencies without taking away from the tone of the guitar? Any tip are greatly appreciated!

It's pretty standard to compress the bass to make the peaks more tolerable, and allow more volume. Any engineer woth his salt knows this. By the way, do you mean the tone of the guitar or the bass? Either way, the compressor won't affect it.
