School amps take a beating - and get stolen. Wanting something that sounds good with an upright raises the bar higher still.

For just electric I recommend something 100% solid state. Peavey comes to mind. If you are going to play upright, I recommend GK or SWR Workingman (tube preamp). 100 watts would do it for a school band. I use a 60 watt with a 18 piece big band which is slightly underpowered.

: I am in the process of purchasing a bass amp/speaker combo for my school. It will be used mostly with an electric bass in a vocal and instrumental jazz setting, but I want something that will be versatile and sound good using an upright acoustic bass as well. Any recommendation would be appreciated. Please tell me what you like about it as well. Thank you!
