Go with the one that sounds best. Of course we all knew that already.

And you've probably also realized that this is not as easy at it sounds, which is why you asked for advice.

If I had to choose between the two I'd probably consider the following:

Ibanez: They make low priced instruments and the model you are looking at is near the bottom of their price range. I'd pay careful attention to the construction quality of the particular instrument. On the other hand it's a dual pickup model which gives you something to grow into - you'll get more sounds. Also when Ibanez says this model is geared toward hard rock they probably mean very hard rock.

Fender: I'm guessing you're looking at Fender Standard P-bass made in mex. A p-bass doesn't have a lot of total variations, but if it's the sound you're after go for it. I've heard lots of good things about the made in mex basses. Some consider them to be dollar for dollar better basses than the American made.

It's a pretty tough choice. At that price range I don't think you can go wrong with either. Consider too that if you continue to play you'll probably be ready for an upgrade in about 2 or 3 years. I'd take a look at the Yamaha basses too. I have a Samick J-bass in the same price range and was very happy with it for several years.

Two more things: Play the actual instrument you will buy. Play it through an amp that is at least similiar to your own. I don't know if it just me but most basses sound better played through a 400 watt stack.

Happy shopping

: Hi everyone,
: I've been playing bass for about 2 years now and i think its time to get a new bass. My problem is I can't decide which one to buy.I've narrowed it down to either the Fender p-bass or Ibanez srx300. I play mostly rock, and i've heard that the srx is awesome for playing rock, but i've played the p-bass in a music store and i think its awesome too!!PULL-EEZ help me decide.
: your help is greatly appreciated,
: rabbit
