: I hope someone can help me with this...
: I have two 5-strings. One old Hamer, and one Ibanez edc-705.
: With both basses I have the same problem. The E and B strings on the Hamer, and the B string on the Ibanez produce double notes wherever I fret the strings, or when I play them open. It's kinda like a strong, "off" harmonic.
: Is it the strings?
: The string height?
: The neck?
: Evil spirits?
Possibly strings too close to pickups...magnets affecting string vibration. Depress B string at last fret and measure distance from bottom of string to top of pickup magnet. Aim for 4/32". Do same with G string but this time, aim for 3/32". Measurements in play position...easiest way is to be seated with bass resting on your lap.
