: Well, I'm a 16-year old bassist who is freakin' lucky!
: I had been looking for a good bass so I could get rid of my old Squire. So to make a long story short I found an used '78 Alembic Series 1 for $850! I played the thing, it blew me away, (as I expected). I had never seen an Alembic besides pictures, much less played one, much less owned one! So i bought it. It even came with the original power supply cord and a custom-fit travel case.
: Its short scale, persian walnut top and back, neck-thru, 4-string, has zebrawood and albonite peghead veneers, ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl iinlays (ovals), mahogany base, and maple and purpleheart laminates on the body. Blows my mind!
: If anybody here is considering an Alembic, go for it! Unbelieveable!
if anybody`s into nice-price-alembics: the japanese fernandes company was founded in the early 80`s by former alembic employees. They started making marvellous alembic copys with original electronics. This was forbidden by alembic`s lawyers only a few months later, so only a few fernandes "alembics" are left. I have 1, with original power supply and case, alembic series II in zebrawood, great!!!! Bought it for 600 euros.... If you are interested, they are called fernandes fab 170 (series one copy) and fab 180 (series two copy) Whatch out for them, they`re nearly as good as originals!!
