Hagstrom first came out around 1964 with a line of instruments very much like Fenders. They were one of the first manufacturers to use the four tuners on one side Fender style headstock. They used bright colors on the bodies, while Fender used a sunburst finish.
Hagstrom's claim to fame was that they used a magnesium truss rod. It was supposed to be much more stable than the conventional steel ones.
They never really caught on, though.
