i agree with what the other guys have said. if u just follow the chord progressions ur basslines will be boring as fuck. unless of course ur in the type of band that's focused on the guitar, then i can see you just following the chord notes but at least try and throw in a bit of variation
if you want to know more asbout this listen to some red hot chili peppers basslines. flea is (in my mind) the master of variation. there's some parts where he just plays the chord notes but they're only a few seconds long.
i'm not saying your basslines have to be outstanding but at least put enough variation in them so that poeple will notcie that you exist when they hear ur songs. if you get really good at using variations u can start writing counter rhythms and counter melodies and if u do it right... that stuff just sounds cool!
