Yes, maple generally tends to be a little brighter. I have two basses I use...a Fender P with Rosewood, and a Musicman Stingray with Maple. I use the Rosewood about 98% of the time. Personally, I have found the Rosewood sound to be a lot boomier and a better fit for rock type music. Again...personal opinion.

: : Hey all, could somebody explain the difference between maple necks and fingerboards, and rosewood necks and fingerboards besides the color? I haven't done much playing of different basses to notice any difference, if there is any.

: MAple fretboards will give you a generally brighter tone than rosewood.
