Totally agree with the others. Ibanez are nice sounding, i bought a yamaha that i liked more, personally. Crate amps are good.
Went to guitar center as well (they make good deals, throw in a patch cord, etc). For my Yamaha RBX-170, i payed about $160 US, got the amp for about $90, i think. As far as your first amp goes, a small one should be just fine. If you get serious, you'll buy a huge one later anyways ;^)
I have personally never taken one lesson. Played about a year and 3 months or so. Learned everything I know from tabs i read, and a few words of wisdom from a friend. However, I'm a very fast learner, and get curious alot.
I would say take lessons at first, if that sort of thing suits you. he'll lay down the fundamentals, and then turn you loose on anything you want.
Basstabarchive.com is where i'd recomend, they have tons of tabs for obscure things.
