I think the maker of Brice is the same maker as Rogue. They look identical but as for electronics and hardware, they may be different but using the same company to just actually make the wood products (body/neck)???
As for sound, I bought a LX405 from Musicians Friend just to see if I liked playing a 5 string (Guitarist by trade, but play bass in one band) and for the $230 or so bucks, I think it sounds fine for live use (havent done any studio recording with it yet, but with active electronics, I assume it will do fine for rock and roll). So if you are looking to buy one just to see if you like playing a 6 string bass, why not pick one up? If you don't like it, you could probably get about 75% back selling in the newspaper at the local pawn shop.

: I have a used Ibanez Soundgear Prestige....
: I recently defretted it and put some bartolini's for pickups in. Sounds great!!!! Plus it's a lot cheaper than buying a new fretless 6-string.
: peace,'
