I used to have a Boss DR-550 or something. Now I use my pc (Fruity Loops software) to make grooves and practice along. No doubt you should buy one, it's really worth it! It can help you play precisely - and programming drum grooves helps you understand what a drummer is going through when grooving. Choose one that has sounds you like and has many editing functions (dynamic, time adjustments, etc). Boss-es are great, Alesis, Yamaha and all the great names too. But I advise you buy a Yamaha QY - its an amazing little sequencer with the abilities of a synth. Go ahead, don't hesitate!
