Doug, if you are prone to any physical problems due to the extra weight of a 5, please do yourself a favor and 1)stick to 4s, put a Hipshot detuner on your main bass - then you are only missing the three lowest notes available on a 5 and can switch back and forth between tunings with the flick of a lever 2) have a 2nd 4 string available set up for and tuned BEAD if necessary, or 3) get a Steiny style 5. I must say goodbye to my beloved customized Musicman 5 cause it just friggin punishes the degenerated disks in my back,
if anyone is interested. Anyone that suspects a similar or equivalent condition MUST get it checked out and compensate accordingly; the pain is NOT worth it. No telling how much damage I did while not knowing how bad it really was, now I'm committed to "light duty."
