There are 3 ways to lower the action. Struss rod adjustment. Shim the neck. Lower the string saddles. You are not going to "break" anything by experimenting on your bass. and,,,,you will start down the path of being able to work on it yourself. Try lowering the saddles first. Its a bass, not a Ming vase.....there is not much you can do to hurt it. Just don't go cranking the struss rod 3 or 4 turns at a time. 1/4 turns are good. Yes you can do it with the strings at full tension. Have at it.. Peace.
