in my opinion the only way you are going to sound like Tim is by learning to play like him, you need to have that special groove that Tim has which he applies to his playing, this is what makes his funk backgroung so useful when playing in a band because you can aply groove to any style, equipment comes next

Tim uses
. Fender Jazz and P- basses (wouldn't argue with his choice there)
. Some sort of fuzz/distorsion (i recommend EHX BIG MUFF )
. aMPEG BASS AMPS
