can anyone help me with explanation and/or advice?
When I play a strong G note on my E string I get a ringing on my D string, loud enough to sound like I'm playing a bad chord.
Is it a function of my bass (I've only had it a couple of weeks, Yamaha Attitude Special) or strings or w.h.y.?
At the bridge it takes a lot of pressure to still it, there is practically no movement felt there - but at the twelfth fret I can lay my finger lightly on the D string and it continues to ring - the twelfth string harmonic. At the neck the vibration is strongly felt and easily stopped.
At the fifth fret of the E string I get a similar but less intrusive effect on the A string.
This effect only occurs at those positions, and only when the E string is played.
These are the Yamaha supplied strings (old model bass sat in the shop for years), a thick heavy gauge.
Any advice appreciated (apart from "get a fender"). Apart from this I love this bass and hope it is not a serious problem.
