: I've been playing guitar for about a year, and I've been thinking of switching to bass instead. I seem to be better at single note soloing and things like that than at strumming chords. Is this a good aptitude for a bass player? Or does it not matter? Thanks.
I would think that 'not being able to do something else' is not a good reason to take up bass.
But I would say give it a try and see how you like it. A love of music, rythm and an attraction to bass are the best qualifications.
For example, I took up bass because it was the bass that always held onto me when I listened to music.
