: I've been playing guitar for about a year, and I've been thinking of switching to bass instead. I seem to be better at single note soloing and things like that than at strumming chords. Is this a good aptitude for a bass player? Or does it not matter? Thanks.
Not really. Bass is about FEEL. It may look guitar-like, but it's mission is something altogether different. It serves as the "pulse" or "Heartbeat" of a tune. It's a supportive instrument as opposed to a lead instrument. Simplicity is a major factor in really good bass playing. The spaces are just as important as the notes.
