: : I have been playing bass a few years now and have always enjoyed jamming it up my ass with my friends, but my guitarist is able to make very sophisticated recordings and we have also been able to get a few gigs. All of the people in my band have good gear. I am a pretty descent player, but my gear just does not do me justice. I don't have alot of money at all...if I wanted the most change in my sound for the better, would it be a better idea to invest in a new bass or a new amplifier (given that my present bass and amp are of comparable quality)?

: Phil,

: I'm not very knowleagable about this stuff, but my experience was that I had low quality amp & bass to learn on. I was not happy with the sound quality at all. I took my bass to have a jack socket repaired, and played it through the shops amp to check it. It sounded great! So, in my limited experience the amp has a greater part to play than the bass.

: How about taking your bass into a shop to look at some amps and try them with your own bass; that will give you a good idea which to change.

: Good luck,

: Doug
