: Hey man, I'm a lawyer too and I can't wait until the end of each day to get my butt home to play my bass. My concept is that if I don't play the bass, my job will drive me crazy. Playing bass relaxes me and re-enregizes me after a long day of mental stress. Forget the TV, there isn't anything on TV that is worth watching anyway. And, a passive activity just won't revitalize you like an intellectual one like music will.
: Also, after working like a dog for the last five years, I've made it a point to be very structured about my hours. I try not to go home any later than 6:30pm each day and I refuse to work weekends anymore. From time-to-time, of course, there are exceptions, but for the most part, I stay with this schedule.
: I also keep a bass in a stand in my office. Somtimes, while on the phone, or just to take a bit of a break, I'll pick it up and finger a few lines - really energizes me and settles my mind even if its only for a minute or two.
: Being a lawyer is probably the most debilitating and thankless job in the world. Way too much stress and very little quality of life. Yeah, Yeah, everybody thinks we're making tons of money - get real folks, most lawyers don't make anywhere as much as you think. But remember, you're in charge of your own life - not the senior partners or some lame judge with his arbitrary and senseless time demands.
: When you get home tonight, pick up the bass and play - you'll feel better right away. Then, make a practice schedule for yourself, set up some realistic gigs and have fun. The office will still be there when you go in tomorrow morning and you'll feel better about yourself and your job too.
