Get a teacher. A good teacher's advice and direction is worth ten times whatever
their fee is. Having a good teacher does anything but inhibit your growth and creativity.
Those who think so are usually either very confused or had the unfortunate experience
of having a bad teacher. Only extremely exceptional people get anywhere in music
without a teacher. You're experiencing your rut because you lack a teacher's
guidance. A teacher guides the student and challenges the student in a methodic
way. This forces the student to grow. I know *top* professionals around Philly
who'll still occassionally go cop a lesson (if you can call it that, sometimes it's
just having a colleauge listen to some something) if only to gain a fresh perspective.
Do yourself a favor and hire a teacher.
