: Hi, I just want a few opinions on this...
: I noticed that a lot of bass players object to the six or seven string basses.
: Personally, I think they're great for soloing. However, I also know that it is easy to step
: away form your job as a bass player in a band using the higher strings.
: This leads to the next question (I just want opnions): Why do you think Victor Wooten
: only plays on four strings? Is his technique harder on a six or seven string?
I've never thought about about moving away from a 4 string untill I started reading this message board. A lot of the bass players here seem quite enthused about them.
But then I think, after 17 years of playing the bass I havn't even come close to mastering the 4 string, and am far from bored with it. So I think I'll stick with it.
Another bass player who has done incredible things with a 4 string is John Entwistle. I bet if you asked he'd tell you that there is nothing you can't do with just 4 strings.
