: Hey there boys'n girls,
: IF my memory serves, the Fender Precision Bass, first electric bass ever known, debuted somewhere around 1951 (for those of you funny guys who wonder, NO, I wasn't yet around back then -I'm not that old a fart!).

: If this is correct, then some time around this year we should be celebrating the P's 50th anniversary. So I suggest making a toast in honor of the old P, an invention that sure enough changed the course of music history. And let's not forget to dedicate another toast to the memory of good old Leo, the guy who got it right the first time around.

El Pajaro,
Your memory is fine; the P-Bass *was* introduced in 1951!

In fact, Bass Player magazine's last issue was a 50th Anniversary Celebration for the electric bass.

In my ever-so-humble opinion, the electric bass was Leo Fender's *most* important innovation, although the first solidbody guitar, etc., was neck and neck (no pun intended) in importance.

Let's all raise a toast to Leo Fender's memory!
