: Hey there boys'n girls,
: IF my memory serves, the Fender Precision Bass, first electric bass ever known, debuted somewhere around 1951 (for those of you funny guys who wonder, NO, I wasn't yet around back then -I'm not that old a fart!).

: If this is correct, then some time around this year we should be celebrating the P's 50th anniversary. So I suggest making a toast in honor of the old P, an invention that sure enough changed the course of music history. And let's not forget to dedicate another toast to the memory of good old Leo, the guy who got it right the first time around.

El Pájaro,
Your memory is most definitely correct! Fender's first P-Basses came out in 1951. :-)

In fact, the last issue of Bass Player magazine was devoted to the 50th Anniversary of the electric bass!

I'd *definitely* give a toast to Leo, too! The electric bass is arguably *as* important as the solidbody electric guitar - if not more so - in the growth and development of rock music.

Long Live Leo's Memory!

-Bob
