: : A few months ago I read a tone tip in Bass Player Magazine, and one of the questions they asked a few players and manufacturers was: Do you think a bass should have one pickup, or two, and what are your reasons.

: :[snippage]

: Mickster,
: I'd say that more than anything else, it would depend on what *kind* of pickups you were dealing with.

: For example, compare the old Gibson EB-0 and EB-3; the 3 is *much* more flexible, simply because the big Gibson bass pickup has such a deep tone. For that, having 2 pickups would probably be better.

: On the other hand, the P-Bass works well with only one pickup.

: So there's not really any one hard and fast answer.

: : One word of advice: Never try to *PICKUP* two women in the same bar at the same
: : time... it doesn't end well.

Skip, speaking of EB-3s, I went to Sam Ash the other weekend to get a set of strings, and what was hanging on the wall? An Epiphone long scale EB-3 brand
new! I mean the plastic was still on the pickups! No big sign on it or anything.
It was $439.00 (don't know if it was with or w/o case) No, I didn't try it out.
If I did, I might have taken it home and I gotta be cool for awhile. I wonder if it's a small production run or a new Epi product. Man, it was beautiful, cherry red! Oh the pain. It looked exactly like a Gibson. Even though those basses were neck heavy, I love them. Such a thick, heavy sound. Ah the memories! I just had to vent.

The memories of childhood.
