Well to throw my two cents in.
I have a Fender jazz 62 reissue. I really like it though I have to admit I think it was over priced. But the thin neck for me is the best.
I had an L-2000 back around 87. I had a lot of problems with the neck being unstable and the resale value was the pits. But they may be better now.
The stingray is a great bass but the neck is too thick for me and unless you're in love with the Stingray sound it's probably not the bass for you.
If I was going to drop a great deal of cash I would probably go with a Rickenbacker.
In all honesty buying a bass is so subjective to taste, that the only way to go is to try them for yourself and hope for the best when you plunk your cash down.
I guess the bottom line is that you can't go wrong with a Fender, this being my final recomandation.
