In Reply to: What does Bb mean in regards to a fakebook? posted by Mork on March 14, 2001 at 05:45:03:
: The guitarrist I play with bought a fakebook and now he wants me to get one that holds the same tunes but for bass. And I found one called The Ultimate Fake Book - Third Edition (Bb version) Which is the same book as he got, but it's a Bb..whatever that means. Does Bb mean bass???
: Allso, any suggestions to good fakebooks with mixed songs (the more tunes per book the better) let me know.
The Bb means that this fake book is transcripted for instruments that are tuned in Bb. If such a instrument plays a C it sounds like the Bb on a piano or bass. So if you want to play a Eb minor blues on your Bass, intruments that are tuned in Bb like tenor saxophones or some trumpets have to play a F minor blues.
This fake book in Bb is the same as the fake book in C (for piano, bass, guitar...) but all notes and chords are transposed up 2 half-tones.
Hope this helps...
