: I was dinkin' around on the net earlier this evening and I stumbled upon this site for custom built basses by a company called FBB Custom Bass Works. It appears that these basses are built by one guy out of his apartment, as apposed to a trusted company or small group, but still, these basses look pretty damned nifty and they don't cost too much (Well, for ones independently built.) They run in the price range of $715 to about $1200 and appear to have some fairly good hardware in them (i.g. Alembic pickups and many with Bartolini pickups) but the main bonus is that stylistically I think they kick arse. I have been thinking about one day investing in a Carl Thompson bass but those are definetly hard to come by second hand and aren't very cheap either, but these seem to be a nice alternative when it comes to looks. So, what does anyone think? Does anyone own one or know someone who has one? I know this guy's only been making them since '96 but I'd figure someone out there might have one in their possesion. The website is noted below so check these out and tell me what you think. Thanks to anyone who is able to respond.
Looks interesting. Never heard of them before. If you are interested in getting
a custom bass built check out DP Custom
I own two of his/our 4 string models ( I got to design so much of it I tend to
think of them as ours verses his) and am contemplating having a 5 or 6 string
bass next. I am an old school bass player, 4 strings are plenty, but at Daves'
prices I think I better get all of the ones I want before demand starts to
drive his prices up. Take a look and email him. I think it is the best deal out
there for a custom built bass. I will be glad to email you some pictures and
Keep it in the groove!
