: Hey!
: I wanna start playin' bass (I'm into punk stuff)but i have no clue how to choose a proper bass and stuff... equipment.. and do i have to take lessons and stuff ?!please help me guys !!
: thanx a bunch !

Just some general advice. First you need to decide if this might just be a passing fancy or if you are in for the long haul. If you're in the first catagory buy relatively cheap stuff and plan on upgrading in a year or two if it turns out that you're serious. Plan on spending $300 t0 $400 dollars for an amp and bass. But don't buy garbage becuase it will distract you from learning the bass.
If you're already sure you're in for the long haul you probably should spend more money maybe about $800. But don't go too crazy with the spending as you'll probably find that you'll want to change equipment as you learn more about the bass.

People will probably make a bunch of specific recommendations, but only use these as a general guide. Finding the bass and amp that's right for you is a lot like finding a mate. You need to do a lot of dating and in the end when you find what you like, you'll proably end up with something that you least expected.
Just like when you started dating you can't possibly know at the start what the right bass for you is and there's nothing anyone can tell you to help you figure it out. That's why there are hundedreds and hundreds of models to choose from.

I've been playing for 17 years and I still havn't found the perfect bass or amp for me - and incedently I'm still looking for the perfect mate - ha ha.

I hope this helps. And good luck with the bass playing, I know it's brought me a lot of happiness.
