: My bass has developed a buzzing sound when I play notes on the first fret of the A, D, and G strings. None of the strings buzz on the other frets, just on the first. My action is pretty high, so I don;t think that's the problem. My guess is that the neck it out of whack, but has anyone had this problem?

Hey there,
Yes, your neck may have gone berserk, but if the buzz appears at the first fret only, it could also be due to the wear on the nut (the bass nut, I mean :-)). Not many people is aware of this, but many basses come with crappy plastic or bone nuts, which wear the hell out after some use. Perhaps a qualified technician (Dave, I'm with you there) could replace the old nut with a new brass or graphite one, which should last a lot longer and wouldn't cost a lot of dough. Buena suerte and keep your bass up front in the mix,

El Pájaro.
