Since you are just starting out, this is an important decision.

I have never heard of any right-handed people playing lefty, but there probably are some out there.

I always wondered why, for a righty, the right hand does the simple plucking stuff and the left hand gets all the fretting work.

If you go lefty, your selection of basses wont be as good. Most basses in shop are righties.

Lefties generally buy a left-handed bass, although some players like Jimmy Haslip, just play a righty upside down.
