: any of you know how to take of the frets of my bass without screwing it?is this work for a luthier only? thanks..

Hey there,
The topic has been discussed a few times in this board. As a general rule, I'd say taking your bass to a qualified technician for any kind of repair work is a wise decision. However, there are successful experiences from people who pulled out the frets really well. What luthiers recommend is to heat the frets (i.e., with a soldering iron) before pulling'em out -this allows for the glue to melt and for the wood to soften a bit. After the frets are out, don't forget to fill in the slots with some kind of material. "Plastic wood" or a mix of superglue and wood dust should work out fine. Buena suerte and keep your bass up front in the mix. Oh, and remember to come back and tell how it went.
