: I recently switched over from a Spector to a Fender P-bass and was a little
: disappointed with the sound. Some guys from this message board suggested I
: replace the pickups which I did (duncans). The sound was MUCH better
: but just OK (i've got nothing but excellent advice here)
: So, I think I figured it out!
: My cabinet is a SWR 4x10" which sounded excellent with my spector But sucked
: with my Fender. So I just switched back to my old crappy Crate 15" speaker
: (powered by the SWR head) and it sounds GREAT!!!!!
: Is there anything to this???
: DO fenders sound the way they're supposed to through bigger speakers?
I think the best way to explain it is that different cabinets will work better with some basses than others.
Your Spector is made to have a full range of tone, with a good deal of mids and highs; thus, an amp that has a full range is going to work best with it.
The P-Bass, on the other hand, has one pickup, and a much deeper tone; a single 15" will work better with it, because the P-Bass's tonal range is accentuated in the low end, and not so much in the high.
Hope that helps!
