Hi bass folks. I plan to purchase an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro head to replace my Trace Elliot AH 350 (that has a GP12SMX preamp). Does anybody think something about that ? I play mainly rock stuff and like the kind of rumbling but fluid and brillant sound you can hear on most heavy records (something between Billy Sheehan, Doug Pinnick and Geddy Lee). I also need a head that is easier to get a nice sound with than the Trace, which I find hard to set properly.
Another thing : I'm tired of handling my 2 cabinets (a 4x10" and a 18") and plan to get just one "muscled" 4x10" instead, such as the Ampeg PR-410HLF or the David Eden D410-XLT. Any comments ? The idea is to produce the same kind of sound I get with my 2 cabs, but without the back ache. Can these 4x10s cover a wide enough range of tone ? (because my 18" REALLY goes low, and we both like this, my 5-string and I)
