: I just purchased a yamaha fretless bass and it came with roundwound strings. I've read that these can eat up the fretboard on a fretless and I'm wondering if this is true. If so, any other suggestions for fretless strings?

Hey there,
Very true ...if roundwounds can wear METAL frets, just imagine what they can do to the bare wood!! I suffered this myself in my fretless. For a while I changed to flats, but the sound wasn't so satisfactory. I'm still trying to find a nice compromise between good sound and fingerboard maintenance...
