for solo bassists, check out Michael Manring and Brian Bromberg.

: Here's a few discs I have in my changer right now.

: Get Marcus Miller's "The Sun Don't Lie," and "Tales." Also try to grab John Patitucci's self-titled first CD, though I've heard it's out of print. Me'Shells "Plantation Lullabies" gots the groove; "Sailing The Seas of Cheese" is Claypool's best effort; "Abbey Road" is also McCartney's best in my opinion. To hear some ripping upright rhthym section work, get "Miles Smiles" with Ron Carter/Tony Williams on bass/drums, and Wynton Marsalis' "Standard Time, Vol.1" and check out "Autumn Leaves."

: Led Zeppelin II exhibits some of the best rock bass ever by John Paul Jones. And don't forget Jaco's first, Weather Report's "Heavy Weather," and Stanley Clarke's self titled disc.

: oh yeah, also get Bill Evans "Sunday At The Village Vanguard" for some conversational jazz, and Tower of Power's self-titled disc for some of Rocco Prestia's fingerstyle funk.

: just the tip of the iceberg.

: : Ok guys,

: : Since I got me a "brown bass" I've gotten on a Stanley Clarke kick! Lord help me, he 'd man! [of the hour!]

: : so far I've got School Days and I wanna Play for You on LP, and I plan on updating that w/cd's...

: : I'd like to form a comprehensive collection of BASS (especially solo) artists. I know there's alot of them out there.
: : could y'all recommed me what artists and titles of cd's I should get?

: : I have some Jaco, and working on Clarke..

: : What's your favorites???

: : Oh YEAH. Peter Duncan of Zon fame [ahem!] has had some really pompous flame wars in other web areas but regardless, he's a VERRRY talented player. I have a "sampler" of his and I would like to get more of his work as well...

: : Tell me guys. Where should I start?

: : THANKS!
: : Tim
