: As the handle implies.... this is a dumbass question, but I am not a tech guy or a big gear guy. I just like to jam.
: Last year, I got a new 5 string Epiphone bass after playing a Fender Precision for awhile. Everything is going well until practice last night for a gig tonight. Then my bass started cutting out and squaking like a crippled duck.
: I took the access plates off the back and was shocked to find a nine-volt battery. Now, I'm sure you afficianados know full well what a 9-volt battery would run in my 5-string epiphony bass, but my fender didn't have a battery, and as far as I know I haven't seen a battery in a guitar or a bass guitar.
: Is this for some kind of internal pre-amp or what? By the way, a new battery solved the squaking problem and it is ready to go tonight, but holy cow. Thank goodness it happened yesterday.
Like the other Bob said, it's not a dumb question at all!
The one thing that I'll add is that you should learn to make a habit of changing the battery before a gig; that way, you won't have to worry about it cutting out on you in the middle of a set! :-)
Hope that helps!
