is called "tritone substitution". Actually there are an immense number of substitutions which can be made, but this one is simple and can really make things fun. In the key of C, the dominant is G7. The tension tones in G7 are identical to those in Db7, so you could do:

Am7-Dm7-G7-Cmaj7 OR
Am7-Dm7-Db7-Cmaj7

Those can be tossed in almost anywhere you see a V7 in the chart.
