Nick. YES, you can do it yourself. NO, it's not tricky.......Just remember this. Grab your bass and look down the edge of the neck from the bridge end. If the neck is bowing UP, then the struss rod needs to be tightened. If the neck is bowing down, then it needs to be loosened. Clockwise to tighten, Counter to loosen. MAKE THESE ADJUSTMENTS IN SMALL you asked. about1/4 to 1/2 half turn at a time. Eventually you will get a feel for how much to turn it. But,let that sit for a while...hours. maybe a day, and see what the neck has done. Don't be afraid to work on your bass.You can't really, seriously mess it up. Just don't go cranking the struss rod sround 6 or 7 times. THEN, you would screw something up. How much relief you want in your neck is up to you. I prefer a perfectly straight neck. some people like a slight relief. Anyway.... thats all there is to that Peace...John
